Textile waste is a growing global challenge. Syre’s mission is to decarbonize and dewaste textiles, starting with the world's biggest fiber, polyester. By implementing true textile-to-textile recycling at hyperscale, we want to drive the transition from a linear to a circular value chain by putting textile waste to use, over and over again.

Help drive the great textile shift as part of Syre’s stellar R&D and Technology team at our Pilot Plant and Lab in Mebane, NC. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in designing and implementing innovative equipment to support chemical processes such as shredding, purification, decolorization, and crystallization. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute from concept development to delivery, ensuring excellence in new processes and equipment.

Key Responsibilities

Equipment Design and Development:

• Develop 3D designs and engineering drawings for manufacturing equipment, from initial conceptualization to final delivery.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure designs meet project and process specifications.

Material Sourcing and Vendor Coordination:

• Identify and liaise with vendors for material and component procurement needed for manufacturing equipment.
• Ensure timely procurement and implement cost-effective sourcing strategies.

Pilot Line Installation and Implementation:

• Coordinate and support the installation and construction processes for new pilot line projects.
• Oversee equipment setup and troubleshoot issues to ensure successful implementation.

Process Support Across Locations:

• Provide mechanical engineering expertise to support the implementation of new processes at different locations.
• Address mechanical engineering challenges and drive process optimization at other sites.

Essential Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME/MSME or equivalent experience).
• Proven experience in designing and developing equipment for chemical or manufacturing processes.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD tools such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar.
• Strong project management and organizational skills with experience coordinating across teams.
• Knowledge of industrial manufacturing equipment and chemical process systems.
• Excellent problem-solving and attention to detail.
• Intermediate proficiency in English for effective communication and collaboration.

Preferred Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in mechanical design and verification.
• Familiarity with pilot line installation and operation.
• Experience in a manufacturing or start-up environment.
• Willingness to actively participate in building prototypes.
• Exposure to process improvement methodologies and tools.
• Knowledge of material sourcing and vendor management.
