Textile/Yarn Spinning Engineer
Textile waste is a growing global challenge. Syre’s mission is to decarbonize and dewaste textiles, starting with the world's biggest fiber, polyester. By implementing true textile-to-textile recycling at hyperscale, we want to drive the transition from a linear to a circular value chain by putting textile waste to use, over and over again.
Are you an engineer with proven experience from the textile industry? Then come and join the great textile shift and be a pivotal team member in our growth journey! Our stellar R&D team is growing, and we’re now looking for a Textile/Yarn Spinning Engineer to be based in Mebane, North Carolina.
Key tasks and responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and optimize PET melt spinning and associated yarn processes, including extrusion, drawing, texturizing, staple spinning, etc.
- Ensure that the spinning processes yield a portfolio of target yarns (POY, DTY, FDY, PSF) with consistent quality and performance.
- Set up, monitor, and maintain spinning machinery (melt spinning, drawing and texturizing).
- Diagnose and troubleshoot machinery issues to minimize downtime and ensure efficient operation.
- Coordinate machine calibration and performance tuning to meet specific yarn requirements.
- Design and carry out R&D yarn spinning trials at pilot and commercial scale inhouse and externally with partner yarn spinners.
- Implement, run, and direct various industry standard yarn testing procedures in-house and at third parties.
- Perform quality checks on raw materials (PET chip) and finished yarns to meet industry standards.
- Develop appropriate technical specifications and ensure that yarns meet them.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and lower costs internally and with external partners.
- Stay updated on technological advancements in PET spinning machinery, fibers, and yarn production methods.
- Experiment, innovate, and improve product quality based on customer and partner collaborations and feedback.
- Make sure that operators, technicians, and other workers involved in the spinning process have what they need to do their job.
- Provide training on equipment operation, safety, and best practices to ensure safe and efficient production.
- Technically support scale up of yarn spinning at partners and in-house pilot and commercial operations.
- Upon scale up to pilot and commercial scales, collaborate with the Operations team to set and achieve daily, weekly, and monthly production goals.
- Enforce and adhere to environmental, health, and safety standards for the workplace, including people, machinery, and operational compliance.
We would prefer if you
- Proven experience of working with, and strong understanding of PET yarn spinning processes, fiber properties, and textile machinery
- Experience and ability to maintain and troubleshoot spinning equipment.
